AIM brings MoCo communities together during crisis
Since mid-March, AIM communities have taken steps to support each other and their neighbors in their own ways. Here are a few highlights from recent weeks of how AIM leaders have acted to address immediate needs.
- Frances Swanson and the team from Our Lady of Mercy provided 340 bags of food to the families of Gaithersburg Elementary School within 24 hours at the beginning of the pandemic.
- Susan Stern and Temple Beth Ami made 30 bags filled with art supplies and sewed 150 individually-wrapped washable cloth masks to be distributed to South Lake Elementary School students and families, in addition to providing $450 worth of Giant gift cards.
- Also from Temple Beth Ami, Abby Gritz and daughter Allie organized a drive in their North Rockville neighborhood and were able to provide South Lake families with donations of books and art supplies, $200 in grocery gift cards, and 225 disposable masks.
- Sligo Adventist gave $2,500 of Giant gift cards to the families of New Hampshire Estates Elementary School.
- The Islamic Center of Maryland made masks and held food distributions through the season of Ramadan. They continue to provide practical support for the community.
- Bethel World Outreach Church has offered free meal boxes on Saturdays during this crisis.
- Takoma Park Presbyterian donated $1000 in Giant gift cards for families at JoAnn Leleck at Broad Acres Elementary School.
- The Gaithersburg Beloved Community Initiative has made and donated over 40 cloth masks for South Lake families and Cider Mill residents.
