Born in Ecuador, Pilar is the youngest of four children. She was raised by a strong and determined single mother who showed her the importance of family, perseverance, and how to face challenges with resilience in an often unequal world. As a national-level athlete in skating, swimming, and triathlon, Pilar grew up with discipline, resilience, and a deep sense of purpose.

From a young age, Pilar felt a strong calling to help those in need. She pursued a career in medicine and graduated in the top 5% of her class from the Central University of Ecuador. Pilar began her medical journey as a primary care physician serving underserved communities. She later worked in both the private and public sectors, including managing the Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis program in Pichincha, Ecuador.

After moving to the United States, Pilar continued her education, earning a Master’s in Project Management from Rey Juan Carlos University. She later earned her Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification and Agile Hybrid Project Pro micro-credential from the Project Management Institute.

Pilar is deeply committed to fostering meaningful relationships and connecting people across all backgrounds, social statuses, and ethnicities, believing that true change is rooted in unity. She works relentlessly alongside community leaders to push for progress, always focused on strengthening collective power through mutual respect and understanding. She has organized families to advocate for safer bus stops for children, improved neighborhood safety, and tenants’ rights. She co-leads AIM’s pre-K expansion and dental campaigns.

Pilar is a proud mother of two sons. Growing and learning alongside them, while guiding them to be kind, responsible, caring, and happy children, is what motivates her every day and is one of her proudest accomplishments.
