Listening Campaign

As part of our 2025 listening campaign, AIM listened to more than 1,800 people in 25 institutions—including congregations, schools, and tenants’ associations. Our facilitators asked participants, “What is keeping you and your family from thriving?” They noted the issues raised and potential new leaders who could engage in our work.

We base our work in the real concerns of everyday people. In August, we trained 100 AIM leaders on how to facilitate deep listening with an equity lens. In September, we kicked off our statewide listening campaign with our sister organizations in the Maryland Just Power Alliance. We listened to over 3,000 people statewide!

What We Heard

The top issues we heard included:

• Immigration, including the effects of immigration enforcement on mental health, community, youth, safety, and employment. 

• Housing and cost of living, including lack of affordable homes, violations of tenants’ rights, and difficulties affording healthcare, food, and childcare.

• Healthy homes, including climate equity, cost of utility bills, and indoor air quality.

• Youth, including mental health concerns, recreation opportunities, and education issues.
