Sarah Insa Sadio

Youth Award Recipient

“Every so often in life, you get to meet a person and you know they will do GREAT things, mostly because they have already done GREAT things. Sarah is one of those people. She is a precocious young woman who has been a voice of equity.”
—Tanushree Dutta Isaacman, AIM Lead Organizer

AIM is proud to present our first Youth Leadership Award to Sarah Insa Sadio, a fearless youth leader who has advocated for justice with AIM since 2018.

Sarah is a junior at Albert Einstein High School, and she has become a powerful voice for change in her community, helping win improvements to schools and recreation centers and addressing climate change.

Sarah’s journey as a youth leader began at just 10 years old, when she spoke in front of the County Council and State Delegates and Senators to help secure a new building for South Lake Elementary School.

Although Sarah graduated before the new school was built, her commitment to her younger siblings and friends, who would benefit from the new building, demonstrated her selflessness and deep understanding of solidarity.

Later, Sarah took her advocacy to Annapolis, where she testified in support of Maryland’s Blueprint for Education, a policy aimed at improving education across the state. She specifically pushed for funding for community schools and Title I schools, fighting to ensure that all students have access to the resources they need to succeed.

In November 2024, Sarah spoke in front of 700 people at the founding action of the Maryland Just Power Alliance (AIM, PATH, and ACT), in support of climate equity legislation.

Beyond her work with AIM, Sarah has served as a youth ambassador for Councilmember Sayles and volunteered with GBCI (Gaithersburg Beloved Community Initiative) at food distributions and community events for several years. Her community involvement reflects her dedication to service and her belief in the power of collective action.

Sarah’s boldness, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to justice make her a role model for other young people, and we are proud to honor her with this Youth Leadership Award.

Reflection from Sarah:

"For me, being part of AIM is a powerful way to champion youth advocacy throughout the county. It keeps me connected to community issues while giving me the chance to use my voice to help shape solutions. From starting in fifth grade to now as a high school student, advocacy has strengthened my public speaking and inspired me to encourage other young people to stay engaged, speak up, and influence the policies that impact our lives.

I am grateful to AIM for opening the door to learning more about the challenges facing our county and for giving me the confidence to speak up on behalf of myself, my family, and my community. Too often, low-income communities are left behind, and AIM has given me the platform to make sure our voices are heard. Thank you, AIM, for believing in the power of youth voices.”
